Welcome

Statue of BuddhaStirling Buddhist Group

We currently practice at Logie Kirk Hall, Causeway Head, Stirling FK9 5LH.

We offer support and guidance on meditation and Buddhism for people in the Central Scotland area.

We are affiliated with the Triratna Buddhist Community (formerly Friends of the Western Buddhist Order). Our level of experience varies from complete beginners to those who are more advanced in their practice. We are an informal and friendly group of all ages and backgrounds, both men and women, and are always happy to welcome people new to the centre.

If you are new to meditation we recommend you attend one of our beginners’ evenings, on the first Thursday of every month – please see our programme section for more information.

If you are an experienced meditator, please feel free to drop in any Thursday evening from 7 pm; meditation starts at 7:30 pm.

We hold a weekly meeting with meditation, talks, discussions, and occasional visiting speakers, and you don’t need to be a Buddhist to benefit from coming along.

If you have any queries about the Stirling Buddhist Group, please get in touch:

email us at info@stirlingbuddhistgroup.org.uk or phone Nick McBain in Standburn on 01324 861742

Dharma

Where creation does some work on itself

Friendship and work are both immediately available, challenging the common misunderstanding about spiritual insight that it can only take place in some far-off, exotic, Shangri-La.

Reality is all around us, as Siddartha discovered once he left the wilful negation of the palace. Something Thomas Transtromer observes in a poem written from the hardley auspicious circumstances of guard duty during his service with the Swedish army:

Task: to be where I am. Even when I am in this solemn and absurd role: I am still the place where creation does some work on itself.

"I am still the place where creation does some work on itself"; is beautiful and mirrors the Buddhist view that if we just make the right effort, not in Shangri-La but here and now, all of us are capable of much more than we usually settle for.
